Show your CHARACTER!

As I walk around my garden each day, I keep noticing all the new things sprouting up. Some of them came from what was planted by the lady who lived in our house before us (for 25 years). Other flowers, plants, and especially the trees came from what we planted. It is spring, and what looked dead just a few days or months ago, is now fully alive. Other plants and trees are just coming into their bloom. They are a product of what was started as a seed and nurtured to grow.
Every Friday I water my inside plants. Every other Friday I put miracle grow on those I am taking special care of. There sections of our yard by the bushes, that I do nothing with, it is not something I even walk by many days. In my garden, those healthy, beautiful, groomed plants and trees are the ones I focused on. Those areas where I did nothing, are out of control now.
It is very similar when we think of our CHARACTER. We are what we focus on. The beginning thoughts that grow into feelings, attitudes, words, actions, and habits . . . become what we are. That is what grows into our CHARACTER! Who are you? That is a very important question, that isn’t easy to answer. Maybe a more important question would be to ask:
- What are you THINKING about?
- What FEELINGS are you allowing to grow?
- What ATTITUDES show up when you get into an intense situation?
- What WORDS come out of your mouth (remember it comes from your heart)?
- What do you find yourself doing (your ACTIONS)?
- What repeated ACTIONS are you happy about? Which HABITS would you like to change?
- Who are you (YOUR CHARACTER)?
Romans 5: 3-5 says, ” . . . we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, CHARACTER; and CHARACTER, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. ”
There is no way to grow our CHARACTER without first growing through hard times (suffering), keep growing and going (perseverance), and growing our CHARACTER (your unique you) . . . which gives us hope (which is not disappointing, because it is given to us by God!)
Nurture and grow the right parts of your life and happily SHOW YOUR CHARACTER!

Life is so full of so many different people. We all have different characters and personalities, and i think that’s great…
but it feels sometimes that we are pressured to have certain characteristics in society, and i feel that it tends to make us compare ourselves to others. which is dangerous.
It just really hit me in my devotions and reading Psalm 139 that God created each of us differently and wants us to be different.
so i was just encouraged to be myself and develop my character according to how God wants me to be and not the mass media…
thanks for doing the posts on character,
Katelynn
